[Washington, DC] — Citizens for a Secure and Safe America (C4SSA) extends its heartfelt congratulations to the Syrian people on their historic liberation from the criminal Assad regime. This monumental achievement reflects the resilience, courage, and unwavering determination of Syrians in their pursuit of freedom, dignity, and self-determination.
These changes represent a pivotal moment for Syria and an opportunity to embark on a path toward democratic governance, justice, and accountability. We remain committed to the establishment of free and fair democratic processes, the release of detainees, and the return of the displaced in safety and dignity.
“The liberation of Syria marks the beginning of a new chapter,” said George Stifo, Chairman of C4SSA. “While we celebrate this milestone, we must also remain vigilant in supporting Syrians in their efforts to rebuild, demand accountability for war crimes, and ensure that the sacrifices made lead to a sustainable and just peace.”
For many Syrians, the ongoing process of liberating those detained in the notorious Sednaya prison brings on a plethora of emotion. Triumph for a newfound freedom, worry for loved ones who have yet to be located, and grief for many who did not survive to see this day. Today, we commit ourselves to ensuring that the stories of those liberated are documented so that they may finally obtain the justice they deeply deserve.
This historic moment not only marks the end of a 54-year long tyrannical rule by the Assad family, but also the end of destructive Iranian and Russian influence in Syrian affairs which had torn the country’s social fabric and flooded its streets with violent militias.
C4SSA calls upon the international community to stand in solidarity with the Syrian people by supporting transitional justice mechanisms, holding perpetrators accountable, and providing robust humanitarian assistance to those affected by the ongoing crisis.
We call on all free parties in Syria to unite in creating a participatory national project that reflects the aspirations of the diverse Syrian people, contributes to regional stability, and fosters positive relationships to restore Syria’s leading role in the region.
As we celebrate this remarkable achievement, we reiterate our unwavering dedication to supporting a Syria that is free, secure, and inclusive for all its citizens. Together, we can build a future where the aspirations of the Syrian people for justice, equality, and prosperity are fully realized.
