Dr. Naem Shahrour

Dr. Naem Shahrour is a board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, and Sleep Medicine, holding three board certifications. He also earned a university diploma in Media Studies from Damascus University. Currently, he serves as a consultant, lecturer , and researcher in Florida and is an editor at Ibn Sina Journal. Previously, he was a professor at Damascus University and the Head of the Pulmonary Diseases Department until the onset of the Syrian revolution. He is also the founder of Al-Jisr Specialized Center for Pulmonary Diseases and Sleep Medicine. He served on several committees of the MOH and ministry of higher education and regional WHO. 
 
Beyond his medical career, Dr. Shahrour has been deeply involved in activism and leadership. He was the President of the Syrian American Medical Association(SAMA) in Syria until the early years of the revolution and is currently a member of SAMS, part of its leadership, and serves on the Pulmonary, ICU, and Sleep Executive Committee. 
He also served on the executive committee of the strategic think tank : Revive. He previously served as the President of the American International Health Council,  Editor-in-Chief of Medical Updates, and a cofounder and board member of Baraka, a nonprofit organization, aiming for charity and occupational rehabilitation. 
Currently, he is the president of the Board of the Islamic community of Wesley Chapel in Tampa, and the Muslim Connection in Florida.
He actively participates in local politics. He is also engaged in activism through TABLE.
