Citizens for a Secure and Safe America (C4SSA), a Syrian American Advocacy Group focused on promoting democracy in Syria and fighting for the right of Syrian people to have their voice heard, is seeking a talented and passionate Op-Ed Writer to join our team. As a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the interests and rights of Syrians, we strive to foster a more inclusive and informed dialogue about the Syrian-American community’s concerns and provide a representative voice for the diaspora. C4SSA is a leading non-profit organization established to address the challenges and promote the welfare of Syrians and provide a voice for the Syrian community in the United States. Through advocacy, education, and community engagement, we strive to empower Syrian Americans and build bridges of understanding between the Syrian diaspora and the broader American society, partnering with the US government and multilateral organizations.

[Responsibilities]

As an Op-Ed Writer for C4SSA, you will collaborate closely with our team to create compelling and thought-provoking opinion pieces. This will be a project-based position, meaning it will be part time, and based on the hours spent working on each requested piece. Your responsibilities will include:

1. Crafting eloquent and persuasive op-eds, editorials, and articles on topics related to Syrian American interests, issues, and experiences.
2. Researching and staying up-to-date with current events, policies, and developments affecting the Syrian community.
3. Collaborating with subject matter experts and community members to gain insights and input for your writing.
4. Adhering to the organization’s tone, style, and messaging guidelines to ensure consistency and brand alignment.
5. Assisting in editing and proofreading other written materials produced by the organization, as needed.

[Qualifications]

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

1. Exceptional writing and communication skills with a keen ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
2. Demonstrated experience in op-ed or editorial writing, with a portfolio of published work preferred.
3. Knowledge and understanding of Syrian American culture, history, and current challenges.
4. Sensitivity to cultural nuances and the ability to approach topics with empathy and respect.
5. Strong research skills and the capacity to synthesize information from various sources.
6. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
7. Passion for social justice, advocacy, and a commitment to promoting the fight for freedom in Syria.
8. A bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Journalism, or other related fields.
